Concert by Pascal Berne - Double bass
After completing his studies in French horn at the Grenoble Conservatory, Pascal Berne decided to focus on composition and the double bass.
As an instrumentalist, he has collaborated with many iconic jazz and improvisational musicians, including Andy Sheppard, André Ceccarelli, Rolando Faria, Daniel Mille, Romane, Christophe Monniot, Marc Ducret, and François Thuillier.
He also has several albums to his credit, including one with singer David Linx based on the songs of David Bowie, and is currently working on another with renowned guitarist Nguyên Lê.
He composes and arranges for numerous ensembles, including the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and the Brass and Percussion Ensemble of the Lyon National Orchestra.
In 1996, he received the Orchestra Prize in the composition competition for large jazz ensembles, organised by the National Jazz Orchestra.
For the past ten years, he has been conducting a 25-piece ensemble, Le Jav-Contreband, the flagship large ensemble of Jazz Action Valence.
In addition, he is co-founder, with Michel Mandel and François Raulin, of the Grenoble-based collective La Forge, an organisation dedicated to the creation and exploration of new repertoires in the field of jazz and improvised music.
